Gavin Gus Poonan
Gavin Gus Poonan makes his debut solo album after many years as a band leader, studio musician and activist. He was co-founder and co-leader of the super Afro-fusion band OZILA of the seventies and eighties. OZILA had recorded hits such as Lifesaver. I’m Suffering, Wola Wola and Shayela Pansi.
The band was a huge success and played and toured through out the country, appearing at major music festivals and clubs.
After leaving OZILA, Gavin Gus Poonan decided to pursue the contemporary jazz and jazz genre by forming his own bands. Notably, ‘Round Midnight a successful band performing at Kippies and all major music venues and concerts.
He later formed a band called What Exit with Shaggy Scheepers on keyboards. Shaggy went on to play with Jimmy Ddludlu and then Freshly Ground.
Shaggy and Gavin grew the relationship and remained friends and supported each others music. It was then decided to do the solo album. Shaggy has built and fitted out his studio with the finest equipment available.
The album was recorded over a period of time and was finally mixed down and mastered a year ago.
This album will prove to be winner with supporting musicians such as, Fana Zulu, Ramon Sampson, Helder Gonzaga, Barry Snyman and others playing on the album.
